Inflammation in the Gut and Heart Failure
Is it possible that inflammation in the gut contribute to cardiac dysfunction and eventually to heart failure?
The team of Matsiras et al., (2023) examined the exact pathophysiological mechanisms between a 'disrupted composition' of the microbiota, harmful metabolites that are created by unfavorable organisms in the gut, and gut barrier disruption - and heart failure.
The conclusion is that intestinal dysfunctions could very well be the underlying condition of heart failure.
The study of pathophysiological mechanisms is focused on the typical physiological functions and processes that lead to health or disease. Pathology looks at how the body behaves (processes and conditions) when disease is present while physiology is the study of the typical mechanisms of a normal functioning body (human, animal, organism). Combine these together and you have the a deeper study of how and why disease is created in the body - or what physiological processes do we look for to explain a diseased state.
And as always, we need more research and understanding.
Enjoy!
