Article: Irritability in ADHD & Borderline Personality Disorder

Irritability in ADHD & Borderline Personality Disorder

Irritability in individuals who have Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) have a dire prognosis of increased mortality.

The team of Arteaga-Henríquez (2024) published the results of their randomized, double blind, placebo-control study with 231 patients, and found that modulating the gut with synbiotic products helped to modulate emotions.

The patients in the synbiotic group had a clinically meaningful improvement of irritability. Other facets of emotional dysregulation were improved including inattention.

What is interesting in this study is that it was conducted in the midst of covid outbreak and the reduction of stress during time when fear and stress were dominating the news and media were significant.

The study is worth taking a look at as the implications are serious. Article
