Together, let’s put an end to deteriorating health

2023 Research: What is the Neuroprotective Mechanism of Blueberries?

It is exciting to see the continuation of excellent research on the effectiveness of blueberries on brain health.

We have talked for the past 15 years on the power of polyphenols, but how do they work?

This brand new article by Samani & Cai (2023) investigates the "biochemistry basis of neural protection" of blueberries, especially in pathways that involve Alzheimer's disease.

In other words: How do blueberries actually improve brain health? Possibly prevent neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s?

Samani and Cai found that blueberries work beyond their antioxidant ability, to enhance cholinergic signaling, reduce neuron-inflammation through inhibition of COX-2, and reduce amyloid formation. It is not one particular mechanism, but several different functions that create a potent molecular mechanism. Article
