Last week we introduced you to our Medical Director, Dr. George Kessler.  If you click on George’s link here you can read his bio.  Last week Dr. Kessler wrote on the Fructo Borate Complex, a product that he has used a great deal in his practice.  In this email we will learn from George how to use the Cranberry Pomegranate Synbiotic Formula, as he has used it with great success.

Dr. Goerge Kessler on the Cranberry Pomegranate Synbiotic Formula:

This is one of BioImmersion’s first products. It was developed to provide powerful support for a healthy urinary tract, improve the cardiovascular system, and suppress bacterial and fungal growth.  While these are good things, the benefits of berries goes much further than this.

There is a Biennial Symposium on Berry Health Benefits. The fifth Symposium highlights were published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in 2014.  The Symposium showcased recent research supporting positive effects of berry consumption on human health and disease.

The Journal of Gerontology series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences published in October 2013 studied the effects of a cranberry-containing botanical on life span and longevity. Cranberry consumption was associated with increased longevity and survival in both males and females. It was thought that cranberry promotes healthy aging by increasing stress responsiveness.

The Journal Advances in Nutrition (November 2013)  found that the proanthocyanidins (phenolic bioactive ingredients) found in cranberries had health effects on the urinary tract, cardiovascular health, oral health and gastrointestinal epithelial (protective and functional lining of the gastrointestinal tract) health.

The book ” Bioactives in Fruit” published June 2013 found that “Due to its rich content of polyphenols, specifically flavinoids, the cranberry is linked to different bioactives, including inhibition of bacterial adhesion, bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory activities and modulation of signal transduction, which may lead to improved urinary tract, cardiovascular, oral and gastrointestinal health.”

The FASEB Journal (April 2014) found that high polyphenol content of cranberries improved glucose regulation and HDL cholesterol in healthy but overweight individual,  resulting in reduced cardiovascular risk factors.  This same journal in March 2013 found cranberry proanthocyanidins affect human prostate cancer cell growth via cell cycle arrest resulting in altered cancer cell activity.

Cranberries contain an active ingredient D-Mannose which prevents Flagellated bacteria (the most common cause of urinary tract infections are flagellated bacteria from the rectum) from sticking to the bladder wall thereby preventing bladder infections.

Pomegranate, another of our important ingredients like wise was found to provide many positive health effects.

The British  Journal of Nutrition (March 2013) found phenol-rich extracts of pomegranate alleviated tissue inflammation and helped with high cholesterol (both total and LDL), microbial infections and cancer. It was helpful in glucose tolerance, increasing the pool of good bacteria in the gut, inflammation in the gut and visceral (belly fat) adipose tissue.

The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism (October 2013) found Pomegranate Polyphenols lowered lipid peroxidation in adults with type 2 diabetes. It further stated that pomegranate improved liver function in these patients.

The Health Sciences Research Commons of The George Washington University Library in 2013 published an article showing Pomegranate improved hypertension and cardiovascular health.

The review article in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine October 2013 found that Pomegranate:

  1. was a very potent antibacterial agent against foreign bacteria but had, at the same time, beneficial effects on our “good bacteria”.
  2. enhanced wound healing
  3. reduced oral Bacteria and reduced plaque
  4. helped gingivitis and periodontitis
  5. inhibited anti-bacterial resistance
  6. enhanced antibiotic susceptibility
  7. helped in viral infections and food born viral pathogens.

The European Journal of Nutrition (August 2014)  found that pomegranate can improve bone health through decreased inflammation and oxidative stress in post menopausal women.

In addition to all of the above Cranberry Pomegranate Synbiotic is loaded with 15 Billion cfu/cap of good and necessary “pro-biotic” bacteria helpful for many human functions along with the pre-biotic inulin which feeds these good bacteria.

Clinical Notes:

To health practitioners, below is the Clinical routines for this product:

For acute urinary tract infections  use up to 2 capsules twice a day.

To prevent infections ( as in bladder infections after sexual intercourse)  use 2 capsule before contact and 1 twice a day for a few days after contact.

For frequent and  recurring infection use one pill daily or every other day.

For long term use in  the other conditions discussed  try 1 capsule twice daily for an extended amount of time and have your health care provider monitor you for effectiveness and adjust your regimen accordingly
