Oat β-Glucan: Less Headaches, Fatigue, Anxiety, and Joint Pain

Can Oat β-Glucan do so much for the body? Reduce headaches and anxiety, as well as increase energy in the body and lessen pain in joints and limbs? 

That is a tall order. I had to check it out, and indeed, the team of Wolever et al. (2021) conducted a study with 207 participants and focused on lowering the LDL-cholesterol with a specific drink of Oat β-Glucan for a duration of four weeks. 

The surprise in this study is that while cholesterol was going down, also did various symptoms from fatigue (and hot flashes), headaches, anxiety, and  joint pain to more energy and clearer brain.

We do need to note that although Wolever et al. (2021) focused on non-GI symptoms, the correlation between gut - heart and gut - brain has been established in research already. Also, during the 4 weeks of the study, as weight went down, so did the various symptoms from joint/limb pain to headaches. 

I also paid attention to the hot flashes going down in post-menopausal participants of this study, and the team surmised that this is because of lessening the general oxidative stress in the body, as this has also been established in research (Cervellati & Bergamini, 2016). 

Even though the study focused on lowering cholesterol, and using Oat β-Glucan for 'non-GI related symptoms' - the inevitability of how connected everything is in the body was showcased beautifully: The gut is involved as well as many other parts of the body.  We are after all, a Supra-organism (Otero et al., 2025)

We have discussed cross-talk between organs, tissues, and systems in the past, which brings me to the reason we have formulated supplements that are multi-layered to enhance the ability of the body to communicate and cooperate.
