Happy Hanukkah: Be the Light
Hanukkah is a magical holiday. Hanukkah means to dedicate, to celebrate the miracle of holiness.
The story of this holiday begins with the Maccabean reclaiming their temple in 2nd century BCE and lighting a lamp to purify and rededicate themselves. But with very little olive oil, enough for one day only, they did not have what was required for the dedication.
Yet somehow the lamp continued to brightly shine for eight days. An unexpected miracle. The celebration is more known for this miracle than the recapture of the temple.
I was reminded of the magical universe around me today in my walk through a path with huge and tall trees, swaying in the strong wind. What called my attention was the loud musical sound that the wind made through the trees, it was deafening and awe inspiring. I knew i was walking through a holy moment. Listening to a symphony that is magical and inspiring.
How often do we stop to look around, to tune into the beauty around us, and in fact, turn on the light within us to shine for others? I know I need to be more mindful of the magic around me, and in me - and to let it shine for others, in kindness, in love, in a helping hand.
Let's celebrate this holiday of light with a rededication to a higher purpose to seek goodness and unity for all.

Happy Hanukkah!
