2025 Research: SIBO and Garlic
Last week we discussed a recent 2025 research by Khan Mahar et al. on garlic's abilities to boost immunity, to support a healthy GI, and go against microbial infections.
SIBO requires a different approach with food. Fiber and fermented foods can aggravate the symptoms, and if IBS is part of the condition, it can pose difficulties in what to eat, and how to to create a better environment within the whole GI tract.
A small 2025 clinical study with 16 participants was conducted by Min et al., with herbal formulas that were comprised of garlic with other anti-parasitic, anti-oxidants, and anti-fungal herbs. The results were very promising. Article
I have chosen to highlight Garlic as that was one of the most consistent element of the two different formulas and prominent in terms of the amount used in the formulas. And since Garlic is anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, and goes after yeast and all sorts of microbes, it makes sense to have it as part of the SIBO protocol.
Enjoy!
